WWF FSC Certification Training – (4th Jan 2021)

On January 4, the World Fund for Nature (WWF) launched FSC certification training in Libreville. The five-day workshop, which is targeted specifically at Chinese companies in Gabon, will enable trainers to “enhance their knowledge and understanding in order to better understand FSC forest certification” and to be able to understand and comply with the different requirements under the FSC label ensuring sustainable development and workers’ rights.
FIRST AID – 22nd Aug 2020

In partnership with Red Cross Gabon, first aid training was conducted to raise awareness among our staff. At GWI, safety is our priority and we find it essential to equip our staff with the basic knowledge and skills if and when a sudden injury or accident occurs.
DIRECTIONAL FELLING TRAINING WITH MFGI – (4th to 10th Nov 2020)

As part of the requirements of Reduced Impact Logging (RIL), directional felling trainings were conducted to educate our Chainsaw Operators on the proper techniques and knowledge of felling trees. The training aims to raise awareness among our Chainsaw Operators and fellow workers on safety while felling trees and to ensure that the felled trees fall in the right direction. This ensures damage to the environment is avoided and maximizes the volume of each tree (less splits, cracks, ring shake etc.).
WWF EXTERNAL SOCIAL RELATIONSHIP TRAINING BY MME. BILOGHE- (6th to 10th Nov 2020)

Dealing with local communities or villagers is one of the major topics when we deal with the social aspects of Sustainable Forest Management and certification as a whole. As part of our collaboration with WWF Gabon, Madame Biloghe, who specializes in External Social Relationships conducted trainings for our people. The training took place in our Mokabo office from 6th to 10th November 2020.
WWF MISSION IN MOUILA – (November 2020)

A 10-day training on certification was conducted in Mitzic back in August 2020, it was through the training we were introduced to Dr. Obame of WWF Gabon. WWF Gabon provides training / guidance as well as financial support to logging companies on topics such as forest management, reduced impact logging, social aspects, wildlife protection and so on. Dr. Obame visited our Mouila camp in November 2020 to better understand our operation and to ascertain the support or trainings we need for certification.
WWF TRAINING IN MITZIC – (August 2020)

A 10-day training on certification was organized by Forestry and WWF Gabon in Mitzic back in August 2020. WWF Gabon provides training / guidance as well as financial support to logging companies on topics such as forest management, reduced impact logging, social aspects, wildlife protection and so on. The trainings, which included a field trip to one of the logging companies in the region, covers multiple aspects such as traceability, tree tagging, GPS & compass usage, chain of custody and etc.
PPF – PLAN DE PROTECTION DE LA FAUNE – (28th to 31st Oct 2020)

As part of the Protection Plan of Fauna, we joined forces with the Forestry and National Park in Gabon to conduct inspections within our forest to raise awareness among our workers and fellow villagers in order to stop poaching and illegal hunting.
